Pavilion Information
from
House Greydragon |
Here is a beginning page on some of the pavilions in House
Greydragon.
We have sewn several different sizes of pavilinos, based on the design of and
article by Master Dafydd
ap Gwystl, of Atlantia. While the intent is to provide detailed pictures, here are a
few showing the tents, and other detailed pictures (which take to you other pages of
information). Dafydd's original article is linked above.
- A revised article on pavalino construction was written by one of
Master Dafydd's apprentices and printed in the
Atlantian A&S publication (The Oak)
- A (US Measurement) canvas calculator
(or Metric canvas calculator) for computing the amount of canvas you need,
and the size of the pieces, depending on the width of canvas you can get,
and the number of spokes you want. NOTE: The
total canvas is NOT the amount you would need using Sorcha's layout in the
article above.
- My method of laying out the canvas
(for the roof pieces) and cutting the roof "flaps".
- An image showing the different relative slope of the
walls,
depending on the length of spoke you choose for the (middle size) pavilino.
- Some additional
details on construction steps
for the pavilino.
- Our method of pennant attachment.
- Our method of laying out the stakes.
- My experiment on the impact of setting up on a slope is also
here.
- Information and photos from an existing circular pavilion in Basel,
Switzerland.
- A page of information with different paintings/drawings of
other medieval tents which
seem to indicate some sort of interior structure, and supporting evidence for
the spoked wheel design.
-
Pictures of a tent
from 1542-1545, made for the Portuguese governor of India, with clear
architectural features which support a hub-n-spoke design.
- A page of information on painting
and decorating tents, including type of paint, mixture, and
advantages.
- A picture page showing my new 7-foot-spoke
pavilino from various angles.
